Advanced Technology

New dental technologies are continuously emerging in the marketplace.  At Holohan Dental, we utilize proven technology and techniques by carefully and thoroughly evaluating new technologies and their benefits to our patients. Here are some of the many ways we use technology in our office on a daily basis.

Digital Intraoral Scanning

Intraoral scanning is a 3-Dimensional (3D) approach to capturing dental images.  The Digital Oral Scanner is a wand-like device that attaches to a cord on a computer.  The scanner has software that gives a more accurate view of your mouth, gums, teeth, and all other oral structures with the aid of the latest technology.  The best part about using this device is that it makes easier to create a digital impressions, which means no more uncomfortable impression materials in the mouth! This technology enables us to achieve accurate and detailed dental models that enhance the efficacy of restorative dental work. The intraoral camera is a very small camera, only a few millimeters wide, that allows us to view clear, precise images. You and your doctor can view these images on a chairside flat screen monitor to help enhance your understanding of your dental condition. We are also able to save your images for your permanent record and for printing or sharing with specialists, labs or your insurance company.  Our doctors  use this technology in the fabrication of clear aligner trays for "invisible braces",  for fabricating 3D printed or milled crowns, inlays, veneers, implant crowns,  night guards, and retainers. We also use this technology to capture and store these images in the computer to be able to compare teeth changes over time.

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera is a very small camera, only a few millimeters wide, that allows us to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth, and gums in order to more accurately make a diagnosis. Details that may be missed using standard mirror examinations are clearly visible in the intraoral camera images. You and your doctor or hygienist can view these images on a chairside flat screen monitor to help enhance your understanding of your dental condition. We are also able to save your images for your permanent record and for printing or sharing with specialists, labs or your insurance company.

Precision Magnification

Our doctors and clinical team utilize special high-powered glasses (called magnifcation loupes) to enhance the quality and precision of your dental care. Magnification loupes help us to see hairline cracks and hidden decay often before these problems may be evident to the naked eye. They allow us to create more beautiful restorations, and improve the health and longevity of your restorations, by enhancing our diagnostic capability.

In-Office Whitening

Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact many dentists consider whitening the safest (and least expensive) cosmetic dental procedure available.  Our In-Office Whitening System uses proprietary technology to whiten your teeth an average of eight shades in a little over an hour.  We will determine if you are a viable candidate for in-office whitening by doing a thorough oral exam, including a shade assessment. A professional cleaning is recommended prior to the actual whitening session.

"Air" Polishing

Air polishing is a technology used to highly polish the teeth. It uses a fine "mist" of powder, water and air pressure to give you the cleanest teeth possible.
